Blink

Wow. This is the first post I have written in what seemed like years. It's been crazy these past few weeks and if you would allow me a well deserved moment of self-gloating, I just noticed that a famous author has started following my blog. Haters to the left, please.

1st July, Thursday

The RD was back in town but only for the weekend. After being on top of the world (Nepal and Tibet) for a few weeks without any of the luxuries that we take for granted everyday, RD, understandably, wanted to shop. After we had our traditional catch up at the Mandarin, we wasted no time and attacked the retail giants in Central. First on the agenda was the Chanel Paris-Shanghai installation at Joyce. RD was touring the Himalayas so he wasn't able to attend the launch here in Hong Kong. We worked our way through the installation starting on the ground floor. As I always do, I zoom in on the accessories then the clothes and even though I have seen this installation a few times already, there's always something new I see. Like the felt embroidered fingerless gloves on one of the mannequins. I'd give anything to slap someone wearing these beauties!
Next stop was Soho, where we checked out local independent boutiques. RD and I came across a shop that specialises in menswear and the result was a little fashion shoot that involved a Neil Barrett jacket and a pair of black drop crotch Comme des Garçons trousers (pictured on the left).

The CdG trousers were put on reserve and off we went to check out Lane Crawford where we got up close and personal with Jason Wu (for those of you who are wondering, Jason Wu was the designer responsible for Michelle Obama's one-shouldered chiffon crystal embellished dress during her husband's inaugural party), Martin Margiela, Philip Lim, Haider Ackermann, Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu, Alexander Wang, Thakoon and Stella McCartney.

RD and I were shocked at the gimmicky t-shirts by Miu Miu. First of all they were cheap-looking and second, the printing job was just plain horrendous. All of this for HK$ 1050. And that was the discounted price.

After the sensory assault, we headed over to the newly opened Tom Ford store one floor below Lane Crawford. We were met by neatly hung shirts, sleek jackets, polished leather shoes and a sound that could only be described as a hyena being slaughtered coming from the dressing room. There was a guy having a fit in a Tom Ford tux, complaining that the trousers were a bit 'too goddamn long for his liking' and was ordering the shop assistant to do something about it. I was so tempted to grab a pair of scissors and turn his tuxedo trousers into pedal pushers. Now, wouldn't that have been something?! The nerve of some people.

2nd & 3rd of July, Friday & Saturday

As you can imagine, having RD back in HK town means serious partying. I tried to partake in this merry making even though I was still nursing a hangover from a charity event a few days ago (it's not the age that slows the recovery process- it's the quality of the vodka. That's my excuse and I'm bloody well sticking to it!).
After numerous drinks, a Filipino and Korean meal and some serious dancing 2 days later, RD's mini-HK break had drawn to a close. I wanted him to stay, being the selfish person that I am, but just as quickly as he appeared, he was off again in a blink of an eye.
